UNITED KINGDOM, FRIDAY, 24/11/2023 - The Brunei Religious Officers Student Association (BruROSA) has organised motivational talks in collaboration with BeManfaat, a management and service company which specialises in conducting education and management training in Brunei Darussalam. The programme was held in three distinct regions in the United Kingdom and Eire with the aid from the respective societies of each region including BruCastle (Newcastle), BruSCA (Cardiff) and BHSC (Brunei Hall). This programme, which was held from the 10th to the 18th of November 2023, was attended by a total of 46 Bruneian students and 4 UPP officers.

The motivational talk titled “Empowering Self: The Journey of Personality Leadership”, was delivered by Cikgu Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Nawi, the Director of BeManfaat Management and Services Company and also a former Director of Curriculum Development of Brunei Darussalam Ministry of Education. This programme aims to provide academic guidance and motivational support to Bruneian students while giving the students a sense of belonging amongst the Bruneian community in the UK. BruROSA has also invited Md Haziq Hisyam Md Zaki, the Internal Lead and Head of Synergy of Persatuan KESAN and a member of Belia Masjid Ash-Shaliheen, as well as a degree holder in Petroleum Engineering at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, to help facilitate the programme.

First venue: Newcastle
The first event of this programme was inaugurated on Friday, 10th of November 2023 at Newcastle University Students’ Union. It was led by an opening speech and prayer by Safiuddin Safwan bin Said, Financial Secretary of BruROSA, followed by an introductory session amongst the attending students and Cikgu Hj Abd Rahman. The event proceeded with the motivational talk, incorporated with a short activity segment called ‘3, 6, 9 Game.’ In this activity, the students were asked to count from one and the numbers onwards. The game went on around the crowd and every time a person gets to a number containing three or multiples of three, they will have to say ‘boom’ instead of the corresponding numbers. It continued until someone made a mistake which resulted in the game being restarted until a person remained. The game was intended to boost the attendees’ engagement and encourage them to feel comfortable with each other. The event came to an end with a casual sharing session among the students and the guests.

Second venue: Cardiff

The programme continued on Friday, 17th November 2023 at Cardiff University Students’ Union with an opening prayer and speech led by the President of BruROSA, Mohamad Nur Raziqqien bin Abu Bakar. The attending students continued to introduce themselves to Cikgu before the start of the motivational talk. A short activity segment was included as a break for the attendees before the talk resumed. This activity was called ‘Zip Zap Game’ in which the students were instructed to stand in a circle in which the aim was to pass plays to players around or across the circle by saying either ‘Zip’, ‘Zap’ or ‘Boing’ and using specific gestures as instructed at the same time. The event ended with a casual sharing session amongst the students and the guests.

Third venue: Greater London

The last event of this programme was held at Brunei Hall, London Paddington, on the 18th of November 2023, Saturday. It began with the recitation of prayers by Mohamad Nur Raziqqien bin Abu Bakar, the BruROSA President, followed by the final inspirational talk of the programme. ‘3, 6, 9 Game’ was once again played by the attending students before the second part of the talk by Cikgu Hj Abd Rahman Nawi. The event finally concluded with a casual sharing session and certificate presentations from BruROSA to Cikgu Hj Abd Rahman Nawi and Md Haziq Hisyam Md Zaki as a gesture of appreciation for the success of the programme.

BruROSA would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Cikgu Hj Abd Rahman bin Hj Nawi and Md Haziq Hisyam Md Zaki for facilitating the programme, as well as BruCastle, BruSCA, BHSC and the UPP officers for assisting us in conducting this event. We hope this event has been insightful and beneficial to everyone, especially to the attendees and we look forward to seeing everyone again in our future events!
